RetroGuardŽ Arterial Check Valve
Centrifugal pumps use non-occlusive rotors that eliminate the risk of excess outflow pressure, but require a minimum rotational velocity to maintain forward flow. If the pump flow falls below the minimum velocity, retrograde flow can occur and cause air to be entrained at the catheter site, suture holes and open vessels. This air can cause a potentially fatal embolism. The RetroGuard valve prevents retrograde flow and possible embolisms.
Features of the Quest RetroGuard valve include:
- Unimpeded unidirectional flow
- Provides a gentle washing action around the bicuspid valve preventing stasis
Use RetroGuard to prevent retrograde flow in the arterial line when using a centrifugal pump.
Product Information
MAKES THE SAFE PUMP SAFER
- Quest's RetroGuard arterial check valve prevents retrograde flow in the arterial line when using a centrifugal pump. The one-way bicuspid valve stops retrograde flow to prevent the entrainment of air at the catheter site, suture holes and open vessels.
- The RetroGuard valve is intended to be placed proximal to the arterial filter within the filter bypass loop. This positioning allows for post-operative recovery of arterial line blood and retrograde flow if repriming is necessary.
